Here is some great information on our new product line with Fodder Solutions
Introduction: Sun Roads Farmory’s new product line (through Fodder Solutions) will provide an innovative way for various livestock owners to produce feed year around in a totally controlled environment. This gives the producer the ability to provide a consistent high nutrient 100% organic green feed to their animals regardless of weather or market conditions. The systems are designed with robust and user friendly technologies while using state-of-the-art growing methods gained from many years of research and product development. The product models are available in modular sized fully transportable containers from as small as a refrigerator size to full turnkey custom designed commercial systems providing for the feed needs to match the small farmer/rancher to commercial farms and ranches. This will enable each producer to enhance their efforts of protecting and preserving our natural resources.
Sun Roads Farmory’s project is focusing on the introduction of new crop growing technologies (hydroponic) that enhance innovative ways of protecting and preserving our natural resources.
What is a Sun Roads Farmory Fodder Solutions system?
The systems are a hydroponic growing room that has been specifically developed to sprout grain and legume seeds for highly nutritious yet cost effective livestock feed.
A selection of grains and legume seeds are spread onto the specialized growing trays and are watered at predetermined intervals with overhead sprays. A set temperature is maintained inside the chamber to ensure the best growth and highest nutritional value fodder possible.
Each day you simply slide the feed out of the trays, rinse the tray, reseed and push the newly seeded tray into the other end. The system holds enough trays so your desired amount of feed is available every day.
The sprouts grow on the Fodder solutions specially designed sprouting trays with no growing medium.
Feed quality barley germinates within 24 hours of seeding. The barley grows in the same tray for 6-days and is ready for harvest as a 5 to 8 inch high grass mat.
Generally it takes six days to grow from seeding to feed out. This can vary by 24 hours depending on how well you maintain a consistent temperature inside the system.
The “sprout mat” is completely edible and highly nutritious as it is a living food. The animals will eat the entire mat, roots and green growth so there is no waste.
FODDER Solutions do not add any additional nutrient solutions to the water. Our years of research and economic studies of adding additional nutrient solutions to the water prove that this is neither viable nor necessary.
Only a single phase 15amp power supply is needed. The rooms come complete ready to plug a 15amp lead into the power socket.
The systems cost no more than $2/day in power costs to run as they are very well insulated and designed to be extremely power efficient.
The systems can be used outside in a paddock but naturally they will perform better with lower running costs inside a shed or out of direct sunlight in the summer months.
FODDER Solutions technology offers low operating costs and requires minimum labor. Depending on the system size, typical operation takes from only 15 to 60 minutes per day to harvest, clean and seed the FODDER Solutions system.
FODDER Solutions systems range from 88 lbs/day through to 6,614lbs/day. There are eight transportable systems, 88lbs/day, 132 lbs/day, 220 lbs/day, 264 lbs/day, 330 lbs/day 551 lbs/day, 661 lbs/day and 750 lbs/day. Any systems larger than 750 lbs/day are custom designed to the specific needs of the producer and are recommended to be constructed on site.
Energy Efficiency/Displacement, Rural Econ Development, Environmental Benefits:
Benefits of using a fodder solutions system
Being able to grow your own highly nutritious feed on farm/ranch for only $0.03-$0.06c/lbs
Forget about waiting for rain or soil moisture to plant
No more moving irrigation lines, plowing fields, mowing, windrowing, bailing and hammer milling.
Save on feed prices - Instead of paying high feed prices in tough times you can hedge your investments, buy when others are selling their stock cheap and sell when others are paying high prices. With a fodder solutions system you can take control of your feeding and production.
Organic and affordable - Growing demand for economical “natural” animal feed as well as concerns relating to animal feed safety and the environment make fodder solutions systems an attractive means of producing affordable organic “green” feeds
Process Benefits
Optimum production, Accelerated growth, High yield in a very small area, Low water consumption, Low energy consumption, Usable pass through water for animals, Easy maintenance, Trouble free operations, Aware how the barley was produced and what it was exposed to, Ultra-premium feeds, Feeds produced anywhere in the world regardless of temperature and growing seasons.
Incredible Water Savings. Water consumption is minimal and passed through irrigation water can be used for animals. The system uses only .5 to 1 gallon of water to produce 2.2 lbs of green grass. Conventional growing methods require about 21 gallons of water.
Additional Key Process Benefits:
Improved feed conversion on poor quality pastures
Improved conception rates
Improved weaning rates in herds on poor quality pastures
Fewer health problems
Drought proof your property
Grow your own organic feed on farm all year round
Improved fleece characteristics in sheep, alpacas and goats
Greatly improved performance of early weaned calves and lambs
Reduced recovery time after hard work
Stimulation of appetite, especially during conditions of heat stress
Improvements in behavior, i.e., reduction of “fizz” in horses
Great improvements in general appearance & coat gloss
Substantial improvements in hoof quality & strength
Improved milk yields.
Producer Participation: These systems are as small as a house hold refrigerator and can be designed for the largest commercial operators of livestock. The feed that can be grown in the systems covers a wide range of animals from chickens to zoo animals.
